M&E Quantity Surveyor
Job Title: Quantity Surveyor – M&E (Retail Fit-Out & Maintenance)

Overview:
Our client is a well-established retail fit-out and maintenance contractor based in Yorkshire, with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality projects across the UK. Due to continued growth within their Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) division, we are seeking a capable and commercially astute Quantity Surveyor to take the lead on a growing £4m account, primarily focused on reactive maintenance for prestigious blue-chip retail clients.

Key Responsibilities:
Attend scoping visits, surveys, and pre-start meetings to ensure accurate project setup and alignment of programmes with cost plans
Produce detailed cost plans and budget estimates, handing over commercially to the delivery team
Oversee multiple live projects with a focus on commercial control and contract compliance
Build and maintain relationships with client-side Quantity Surveyors and Cost Managers
Manage subcontractor procurement: issue enquiries, analyse returns, and place orders
Prepare cost comparisons and negotiate subcontractor terms to drive value
Provide commercial advice and support to project and site teams throughout the project lifecycle
Produce and manage bills of quantities, variations, and valuations (client and subcontractor side)
Lead the production of CVR (Cost Value Reconciliation) reports with clear risk and opportunity commentary
Ensure compliance with main contract and subcontract terms
Manage client variations and subcontractor accounts proactively and strategically
Drive account cash flow through accurate forecasting, valuations, and invoicing
Prepare and submit interim and final accounts, coordinating closely with finance
Monitor project income and expenditure cash flow, flagging issues early
Support the Managing QS in commercial strategy and process improvement
Participate in post-project reviews to inform continuous improvement
Experience & Skills Required:
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Quantity Surveying role within the M&E or construction sectors
Strong commercial understanding and experience with JCT forms of contract
Familiarity with schedule of rates and/or framework agreements
Experience within the retail fit-out or maintenance sector is highly advantageous
Ability to work independently with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
Excellent communication skills and the confidence to liaise directly with clients and subcontractors
